Plagiarism
Chapter 7 in BGG is about how to integrate documentation and sources into your writing in the correct way. In my high school I believe we were very prepared on how to do MLA formatting correctly and citing sources. So in this chapter I was able to solidify concepts that I may have forgotten and get more information as a whole. The main ways in which people use their sources in through summarizing, quoting and paraphrasing. All can be extremely hard to do in the right way to avoid stealing someone's work or plagiarizing. It is important to do these things correctly because these authors have worked hard to get their information published and out there into the world. I have found that the most important idea mentioned repeatedly in this chapter is that when using documentation that you must rewrite something in your own words so that you can understand it. Also being able rewrite only the parts that are relevant to your work. Plagiarizing is a very big deal that was not so heavily enforced in high school. When citing sources you must integrate your own words with the author's words and always give credit. To do so the MLA format suggest that ending the sentence use parentheses, the author's last name and page where the information used can be found. This ensures that you are giving credit and not stealing someone's work. This is a good chapter in regards to our project 2 as we will be using scholarly journals to incorporate into our writing about communities.
